From gesture to listening: learning by doing

Before learning the rules of music, we can experience its relationships through the body, gesture and shared listening.

Direct experience makes concepts such as pitch, intensity, rhythm and resonance tangible. A clearly designed instrument creates an immediate link between action and sound.

Within a group, each participant also learns to wait, respond and make room for others. Musical activity becomes an exercise in mutual attention, not merely performance.
